Meditating on Worship, Music, Singing

As I am studying, meditating, considering the subject of Worship in our Gatherings-singing, music, art etc, I have come across some great stuff. Here is a great interview between Tim Smith (Worship Pastor Of Marshill church in Seattle, Wa) and Bob Kaufmen (Worship pastor in Sovereign Grace Church in MY).

For those belonging to The River, would love some Pre-Gathering Thoughts on Art in our gatherings and Art out of our Gatherings.

peace,

To me, each kind of art: music, performance art, film visual art, etc... brings us closer to God. Art is like a little tiny vision of heaven. I am AMAZED at our creative human minds. I love that God gave us the ability to participate in creation with Him. I am not that creative, but when I talk to Justin about things that inspire him and new ideas he has (which is like every 5 minutes for him), I am blown away! He comes up with the most amazing stuff that I would never think of. Something about art allows us to step outside of ourselves.

I love music and art personally. Music gets me in a meditative mood and throughly enjoy the moment with god. Its what slows me down or pumps me.It also gives other people ways to express themsleves to god, maybe their way of praying.Same for the visual, its an expression of how you feel or want to feel or what you see.

i think traditionally people get used to a certain order of things and somewhat fall into a rut when worship is presented the same way week after week. church members could almost go through the motions in their sleep and it tends to reduce the actual involvement. but when we enter the gathering without any expectations or preconceived notion of how things will be...we become more open and ready to receive whichever form of expression we are asked to perform. admitedly some forms are easier for me than others, but i get so much more out of the teachings when I am forced to think outside of the box. so i think each of the expressions...art, music, film, and many others are a great way to draw us in and put us in focus for the gatherings.

i am not a creative thinker-at all. but worshipping through other avenues helps me to get outside of myself. to connect with others in my community and realize that it is not all about me.to appreciate the talents and gifts that they bring to the river.
