The Lent season is upon us! It is exciting to see how God is using this season of Fasting and Love towards people is inspiring those in our community. Most of the Fasts declared are great attempts to draw closer to God, each other, and love towards others.
As a way of celebrating Jesus, what He is doing in our midst, love to continue blogs and comments on What our Fast are, How we are doing/struggling, what acts of love-hospitality-sacrifice-meditation are taking place in our fast, and ideas on how to continue steadfastly in these endeavors.
What are you fasting this year?

In Simple Spirituality the author (Chris Huertz) mentioned that when he leads short term mission trips to some of the most impoverished countries in the world, they budget $5 a meal, per person, 3 meals a day. They then encourage everyone to eat simply, on less than that. At the end of the trip, they have learned a great deal about consideration for others, simplicity, stewardship, etc. Then they take the money that they have saved, and use it to love the poor, the needy, the homeless, and marginalized.
What a great idea! What if we did the same with the money we save on the things we fast? What great friendships would be fostered with those who long for community with others.
I pray that this is the spirit and heart of The Riv this Lent Season.
I am giving up the following:
1. Bread, pasta, and potatoes
2. Going out to eat
3. T.V. one night per week (reading instead)
I'm also going to practice silence and meditation more. I'm starting to do yoga as a way to actively pursue meditation and prayer.
I am fasting from all unnatural sugars and food on Mondays. This is my first Monday, and it's going ok. It's quite difficult at times though.
